The Business and Style of Iconic Sports and Fashion Photography

Turks & Caicos

Featuring Marc Serota
with special guest Brad Smith, Director of Photography at Sports Illustrated

Turks & Caicos is renowned as the last of the true exotics. I love to look over it’s crystal clear waters and the 12 miles of powder white sand where we will be working. There are over 40 islands in the chain with only 8 of them inhabited. At Club Med Turquoise (named for the color of the water) we will enjoy all inclusive entertainment, meals and drinks as we work and share our creativity. During our workshop, I will show you how to cover a sporting event and how to produce meaningful images, as you completely fall in love with the surroundings we have chosen for this workshop amid the 2013 National Volleyball League’s GObeachfest.

During our workshop, you will have the opportunity to shoot on our sets and lighting, working with the professional athletes and legends of the Pro Beach Volleyball tour as well as some of the most beautiful models anywhere. We will have access to a luxurious ocean side mansion with a private beach and marina that is nestled along the most amazing cliff-side panoramic point.

Come with me as we work on ways to create images that sell and get published. I will teach you the way of distribution, metadata and how to maximize the revue stream that is your archive. I will share with you who the real players are in the wire service and stock agency industries… who can help you get published and who should be managing you images. We will discuss the editorial and commercial sides of making money and getting your pictures out there for anyone to see and buy. We will discuss how to get yourself into events like the Olympics and what to shoot while your there, as well as how and where to market those images. I have over 100,000 images on the web making money for me today and I will show you how to do the same. I will tell you what is expected from clients like the AP, Reuters, Getty Images and Corbis as well as from magazines like Rolling Stone, Sports Illustrated and Newsweek. We will go over landing assignments from newspapers like the New York Times and Washington Post, and we’ll discuss how to land and execute those gigs in the future. We will go over new technologies and apps, the details of transmitting software’s, how to file images on deadline and how to deliver images to a client before your competition. This course is all about how to shoot and sell like a pro.
